Out in the rural enclaves of Eastern Essex people are turning on their neighbours. Vague and trumped up charges have led innocent women to the gallows. Using a fear based facade to play out injustices, grudges have developed into a fully fledged panic. With a Witchfinder on the loose promising justice, the alleged hell-bent Satan saluting women of Essex had only a matter of time before they were found out…..
The Essex Witch Trails is a bike ride that connects you to the landscape where centuries ago women were executed on trumped up charges from statements made under duress and torture. Each rider will receive the gps route and a booklet in the post, which like a brevet card will need to be authenticated. There will be six stamps to collect. Some stops might have a token to collect, at others somebody will stamp your booklet.
This year the ride will follow the tale of one of the accused as she flees Colchester for safer environs. Sign up and follow in her footsteps…….
The Devil meets his disciples
Once you’ve completed the ride back to Colchester, I will be there to check your tokens and finalise your stamps. With a fully stamped up booklet you will receive a snazzy Essex Witch Trails musette. There will also be some post-ride brews in the local tavern if you fancy it.
This is a self-supported ride, an unorganized event. So join at your peril and make sure you are confident that you can fix any mechanicals yourself and are in a fit condition to ride.
