The.Outer.Loop

World War Two had reared its ugly head and now the United Kingdom was about to be overrun. Defeated on the continent, troops had to be saved in Dunkirk. Great Britain was on the ropes. In response to an assumed imminent invasion the idea was formed to build a defensive network across the country. A series of stop lines would be used to slow a land invasion down with a series of natural and man-made defensive structures. This would give the military time to mobilise units to engage the enemy and the RAF to destroy any lines of supply.

Welcome to the Outer Loop. The first in a series of rides that will explore the remnants of an invasion that never happened…

The first ride is focused on the protective ring that surrounded London, the last bastion of fortification for the metropolis. The section you will ride is called Outer Loop A. Starting in Walthamstow, you will be heading in a north easterly direction along the canals. From there you will hook back round and head into farmlands. Things will turn more intense as you tackle hedgerows and hills. Farm tracks and deep parts of the forest. Bike/Hike….

The social ride will be on Sunday the 8th of June 2025. There will be a booklet with info about these wartime structures that I’ll hand out at the beginning of the ride and we will hit-up a brewery for some beers at the end.
